Good asset management techniques are applicable to many companies, from small-scale manufacturing industries, mid range facilities management organisations and large-scale multinational utilities

Each industry can be thought of as a machine producing output. Whilst this machine is running to its optimum, the company is generating income (cash). When the machine is not running the company is losing money.

So the aim of any Asset Management system is to safely keep the machine running continuously for as long as possible.

An Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system is a very large Information Management system that covers a wide variety of functional areas that would traditionally be catered for by many separate IT systems.
